it would be nice if you actually showed ppl how to do that using VALID XHTML.

it would be nicer if you weren’t using a version of wordpress thats exploitable.

it would be nicer if it were shorter.

At the risk of sounding cheeky. It would be nice if you could figure out how to create your own screencast to show people how to do it exactly the way you do it.

  3. whoo | Jun 12, 2007 | Reply

    is that cheeky?

Im not the one that purports to be making videos intending to to teach people.

My point is, that if you are going to teach people, teach them properly, and maybe, just maybe, be a better example than what you have been.

Instead, you’ve accomplished the simple task of .. showing them how to turn off the RTE in a version of wordpress that shouldn’t be used since it’s exploitable 10 different ways.

And your example isnt valid XHTML.

As for my being able to figure out how to create a screencast? lol, youre damn funny, you think you’re the only one that knows about applications like camtasia? C’mon…

IF, I wanted to do that – I could. I dont.

Lastly, if you can take valid criticism, you’re in the wrong market.

    Correction:

Lastly, if you can’t take valid criticism, you’re in the wrong market.

And fix the spacing on your comments, why dont you, they look like crap.

I always know that one of my blogs has made it to the big time when a troll gets caught in the nets. Village idiot indeed.

  6. whoo | Jun 13, 2007 | Reply

and again, if you cannot take valid criticism, why bother?

Frankly, if someone commented on something I put up that was intended as a teaching tool, and the criticism was legitimate, I wouldnt call them a troll – I would thank them for showing me the error of my ways.

I expect that you hope that you hope people watch your videos. Yes? Why would you not want to show how to embed videos AND have compliant XHTML?

And why wouldnt you want to use a blog in your video that is NOT exploitable?

Instead of insulting my abilities with remarks about whether or not I can accomplish what you you have done (which while noble, isnt all that remarkable), maybe you ought to take what I said to heart.

These videos are here to help people who are basic users of tools on the web. Just because I didn’t validate the xhtml doesn’t mean that what I’ve done is wrong. Its just not right to your standards. But it works for me. And I have tens of thousands of people utilizing my sites that are built on WordPress. So I know for sure that these techniques will work for others.

Your issues with the WordPress rich text editor and the security of the current WordPress release have nothing to do with my screencast. Don’t take em up with me. Take them up with the maintainers of the WordPress tool. The fact is that most sites and tools found on the web are exploitable in one way or another. So your days must be long if you’re wasting your time going around to websites busting people’s chops about their WordPress vulnerabilities.

I spend my time focusing on getting people involved with tools that help them get things done on the web.

Robert, thank you for publishing this video!

In the Real World, not everything is as simple as you’d wish it to be, and I would eventually have learned about embedding video in wordpress but your tutorial saved me some time, so thanks!

Bottom line – it works. I wish the other guy would’ve taken as much time trying to help as he did trying to flame.

    Regards,

    Ken Ivey

    Hi,

Thanks for the video, I was trying to figure this out myself.

Unfortunatly, it did not work. My wordpress is 2.2.1 and I turned off the visual editor but my embed code still gets stripped out :-(

  12. JP Russel | Aug 28, 2007 | Reply

    Nevermind,

I discovered I have to be an “admin” for this to work, I was just a “contributor”, and my embed codes were still stripeed. When I do it as admin, no worries.

    Tks !

I watched the video and found it great. I was attempting to use a couple of different plug ins and could not find one that would work properly the way I wanted it to work.

Your video was a great training source and very detailed. I will be following more of your blog as I continue to learn also.

Again thanks from a satisfied blogger.
